Bordeaux will experience the rhythm of Prehistory
The can't-miss event of the Bordeaux summer is approaching fast. The international exhibition Lascaux 3 will be unveiled exclusively at Cap Sciences before going on a world tour. From June 14 to August 31, 2025, the public will have the chance to discover a unique immersive sensory experience at the heart of the famous Lascaux cave, a site listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The first part of the Lascaux 3 exhibition
For the occasion, the cultural site is utilizing all its spaces and floors. What's the goal? To take visitors on a journey into the magical and mysterious world of the decorated cave, through cutting-edge technology and fascinating life-size replicas. On the ground floor, the centerpiece of the exhibition will be the immersive reconstruction of the Hall of the Bulls, the largest, most monumental, and most emblematic of the Lascaux halls. This hall, nicknamed the "Sistine Chapel of Prehistory", has remained a mystery since its discovery in 1940. Its Paleolithic art, made up of 130 figures, including the famous bulls, has captivated researchers and the general public since time immemorial.

The Story of Lascaux Through 8 Immersive Modules
The Great Exhibition revolves around eight interactive modules - featuring films, models, and graphic tablets - that narrate the history of the cave, with archival images and period photos surrounding an immersive facsimile equipped with a unique sound and light system. Visitors will be able to explore display cases containing preserved tools and materials, understand the technical challenges of constructing and protecting the cave, or discover dermoplast impressions of Homo sapiens. The idea? To better understand how prehistoric people lived and created. This immersive Bulls Room in facsimile, 25 meters long and weighing 4 tons, will be presented in a detachable and mobile format, truly bringing history to life!It’s original. A one-of-a-kind device in the world.

A 360° Exploration of the Cave in VR
An exclusive immersive experience awaits visitors on the upper floor with a 12-minute virtual reality (VR) experience. In small groups, participants will get to explore the cave in all its corners, visiting the tunnels and discovering the galleries of Lascaux recreated in VR with cutting-edge technology. Equipped with standalone Oculus Quest VR headsets, guided by a voice, light, and their own hands, visitors will even be able to draw on the virtual walls and unleash their creativity. The original visit scenario, full of imagination and narrated by the voice of an old Sapiens, is available in 5 languages.
