Bordeaux-Marseille: Trains running out of steam

The Bordeaux-Marseille Intercités line, which is half a century old, will be equipped with new trains by 2028. The Oxygène trains from the Spanish company CAF will be ordered and signed as early as 2025. Considered outdated, criticized for its lack of comfort, and often affected by traffic issues (the Bordeaux-Marseille train has officially been voted the most delayed train in France), the line needed an upgrade to transport the 3 million annual passengers who rely on it.

New Generation Wagons

Currently being tested in Velim, Czech Republic, they will also be used for trips connecting Paris-Clermont-Ferrand and Paris-Limoges-Toulouse. Much more comfortable and equipped, the Oxygen trains feature more ergonomic seats that can be adjusted via electric remote control or by hand, complete with footrests, tables, and even reading lights. High-tech ! For a more convenient and quieter journey.

Passengers will also enjoy USB ports and power outlets available at each seat. Plus, there will be dedicated spaces for bicycles and a special setup for people with reduced mobility. These trains can accommodate 420 passengers compared to the current 396 at a maximum speed of 200 km/h.

Cost of the project? 650 million euros funded by the State
